Tame Impala

Psychedelic rock? In 2012? Sounds bizarre I thought that boat had sailed and sunk with the acid hippies who listened to it. Obviously not since this Australian band from Perth came onto the scene originally in 2010 and have subsequently released 2 albums.

However don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. It makes me wish I was an acid hippy! They brand themselves as "a steady-flowing psychedelic groove-rock band that emphasizes dream-like melody” and I won’t disagree with them. This is the most relaxing album released this autumn/winter- even though it is their summer. The music is happy and relaxing with blending melodies and tones. My favorite track is number 7; Feels Like We Only Go Backwards. This is a chill out tune that everyone can appreciate.

They have been nominated for 26 awards between their two albums and have won 11. One of which was the prestigious Rolling Stone awards for best album of the year for Innerspeaker, their first album. For Lonerism they have won the J Awards for Australian Album of the Year and an EG Music Award for Best song with Elephant of the Lonerism album. In my opinion this is astounding work for a relatively new band and I hope they continue to strive and create great music.
